Why we built Showesome Screen Recorder

Devakto built Showesome Screen Recorder — a free Chrome screen recorder with no watermark, local MP4 export, Focus Mode, and flexible recording modes. The story behind our flagship product.

Devakto studio behind Showesome Screen Recorder — free Chrome screen recording

Showesome Screen Recorder is the primary product built by Devakto, our independent software studio focused on practical browser-based tools. We made it for anyone who needs a fast way to record a screen, tab, or camera in Chrome — without mandatory sign-ups, watermarks, or heavy desktop installs.

The problem we wanted to solve

Screen recording has become one of the most common ways to communicate online. Developers report bugs and explain technical issues. Support teams demonstrate solutions. Teachers create lessons. Founders share product updates and gather feedback.

Yet many tools still add friction before the first clip: create an account, install desktop software, accept watermarks, or upload everything to the cloud. For a task that should take seconds, the process often felt unnecessarily complicated.

We kept hearing the same complaints:

  • Having to create an account before recording
  • Watermarks on exported videos
  • Heavy desktop apps for simple tasks
  • Cloud-only workflows when people preferred local files
  • Complex interfaces for basic recording needs

We believed there was room for something simpler: a free screen recorder for Chrome that starts quickly, exports without a watermark, and keeps users in control of their recordings.

That is why we built Showesome.

What we built instead

Our goal was never to create the most feature-packed recorder on the market. We focused on solving the most common recording tasks exceptionally well — screen, tab, window, and camera workflows that work directly inside Chrome.

Recording modes that cover real workflows

Showesome supports:

  • Screen recording
  • Browser tab recording
  • Window recording
  • Camera-only recording
  • Screen and camera recording together

That flexibility covers tutorials, bug reports, product demos, presentations, and educational content without switching tools. Step-by-step help lives on the Showesome blog; our Guides hub links to the guides we recommend most often.

Local-first recording

Recordings should belong to the user. By default, Showesome saves locally as MP4 files, so you choose how and where to share content — not a cloud-only pipeline.

Focus Mode

When people create tutorials and demos, viewers often do not know where to look. Focus Mode highlights important interface elements during recording, so creators can produce clearer videos with less editing afterward.

Virtual backgrounds

Not everyone records from a perfect workspace. Virtual backgrounds help presenters keep a cleaner, more professional look on camera.

Screen + camera recording

For tutorials, demos, and lessons, seeing the presenter often makes communication more effective. Showesome includes a movable camera bubble overlay for simultaneous screen and webcam capture.

What we learned from users

Being a small studio means we stay close to feedback. Showesome has been adopted by developers, support teams, teachers, product managers, and founders — different roles, but the same priority: speed and simplicity. The less time spent configuring software, the more time spent communicating ideas.

People often arrive with searches like “record Chrome tab with audio,” “Loom alternative in the browser,” or “screen recorder with no watermark.” Showesome targets those workflows on recorder.showesome.com; Devakto remains the company behind the product.

Why we continue investing in it

Showesome is not a side project. It is our flagship product, and we improve it based on feedback from people who use it every day — refining workflows, improving performance, shipping new capabilities, and publishing guides that help users get more value.

Our goal is unchanged: make recording and sharing information easier.
